Living in Charleston

I have been following the waterfront issues pertaining to Miss Johnson's designs. I have looked through the website and read all of the documents, looked over the drawings, and read the posts. If city council does not move to implement something like this then I will have to look at moving and be separated from my family.

I recently found out that I am pregnant and have to admit not quite ready for it. I am stuck with a low paying job in a city that is not progressive and has no sign of progressing in the near future unless something like this waterfront were to be constructed for future generations such as mine and my children.

I do not see any future for my children here as it is. There are minimal jobs and minimal pay in a city that is not business friendly and apparently not citizen friendly. I am seriously considering moving to Kentucky where they have good paying jobs, attractions, tourism, and a waterfront. This past year I went to Thunder Over Lousville and said over and over again that Charleston would never compare. What I saw that one night were people gathering on an actual waterfront, not on the street like we do in Charleston. After I came back I saw the fourth of July fireworks and halfway through walked back inside. I did not feel like standing on the boulevard (STREET) straining to see the minimal fireworks display through the trees.

Imagine you are going along the interstate. You see Charleston as it is now. What do you do? You keep driving. Now imagine you are on the interstate and see a complete waterfront with a marina, restaurants, an interesting looking mall, and other attractions that are put forward in this plan. All of a sudden you are tired of driving and want to enjoy yourself so you go one block off of the interstate and you are in the middle of an entertainment hub. Now when you go home you tell everyone that West Virginia is its own state and Charleston is definately a place on the map.
